Interviewing Jennifer Pol
Aurora, CO

Why do you like being part of the Medelia Monitor community of women?

I love to see all the potential growth that is possible with the site. It is an amazing feeling to know that my opinion will count towards influencing products and services. Women’s needs and concerns are still widely overlooked or even ignored; it is nice to see changes in these attitudes coming to light. Plus, I really appreciate all the work that goes into creating such a fabulous website.

What are your passions?

Family is my passion and my most prized possession. I am very close with my parents and brother and hope to create that kind of atmosphere in my own family. My husband and two-year-old son are the loves of my life. It is truly spectacular to see the world through the eyes of a young child. My son reminds me of all the simple things that I take for granted, and he reminds me of how beautiful everyday can be. I am also passionate about going to the movies, and on a clear night you can almost always catch me outside with my telescope gazing at the stars.

Tell us about your work and personal life..

I attended the University of Colorado and graduated with a degree in Computer Science and Engineering. After graduation, I spent some time with both Lockheed Martin Astronautics and IBM. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with a rather wicked disorder called Fibromyalgia. The traditional work environment and my disorder did not mesh well, and a major change was needed in order to find some way to coexist with the disease. So five years ago my mother and I started our own business, Illuminarie. With hard work and lots of love and attention the business has grown steadily. I have never been much of a risk taker, but starting our own business was well worth the gamble and has taught me so much invaluable information about myself. The journey has consisted of a balance of success and failure, and every moment has been well worth it.
